Digital AlternativeTheatre

Taking OUR Theatre out of THE Theatre

In 2021 we put in an (unsuccessful) bid to YouTube to be part of their initiative to get

Theatre better represented on YouTube. Our bid, Taking Our Theatre out of The Theatre, opened our eyes to the possibilities that working digitally offers us.

In the same year, we commissioned Master Productions to film our new AlternativeShakespeare play, Romeo & Juliet: The Confessions, mixing footage from 2 cameras.

In 2022, the decision was taken to make all our future AlternativeTheatre work part of this project.

To get started, we feel it is important to clearly understand and identify what makes theatre work so well digitally, as well as what needs to change to be fully digital.

Our Digital AlternativeTheatre Work

Podcasts

During the pandemic in 2020, we took to Zoom in a big way, understanding the potential to capture our creative process.

The recordings of these calls now form a significant database of material, which we will use as podcasts that document what goes into making new forms of theatre.

PlayBooks

In 2017, we realised there would be potential in releasing our plays as PlayBooks worldwide. Time after Time was reborn as our first Playbook, Shakespeare's Dream.

Over the coming years, we aim to digitalise all our alternativeShakespeare plays. Click below for our range so far!

Production Videos

Although our output focus has historically been creating and performing new plays for the stage, all our play performances have been captured on video, resulting in an extensive back catalogue of footage. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel as we upload snippets of these recordings.

New Video Theatre

How can you translate pieces of theatre to video? That's our next challenge!

We're in the process of creating new and exciting pieces of digital theatre - short snippets of new writing and adaptations that are created with video in mind. The first of these will be hitting our YouTube channel very soon...
